Unlearning Us

You are no more now than the spaces between the letters of your name
Cramped together in suffocating proximity
Or drifting apart in whirlwinds of empty time and space
It is all the same

I thought bricks would make stepping stones to climb
But they only hold us down
Sinking us into the cool depths of yesteryears and dreams
As we try so hard to rhyme

Tongues twist and roll in the back of our mouth
Holding back words and puns and turbulence
And we look into hooded eyes
Trying to shout

We should have licked
Tender lips and left
Raw skin is better kissed
And left unspelt
